ABSTRACT

Developing countries have come to feel a growing necessity of projecting national programmes with regard to the management of natural resources and the adaptation and mitigation of climate change. In this way, they have established the substitution of 50 per cent of conventional sources of energy with renewable sources of energy as a specific goal for the energy sector by 2030. It is in this context that energy efficiency has been approached.

The present study concludes that, despite the legal and institutional framework of energy efficiency being very incipient in these countries, it is foreseeable that the near future will bring significant changes in this topic, considering the various international commitments that have been accepted and the national plans that have been approved, which look to improve performance and increase the use of more efficient means and equipment and also bring a change of attitude towards these issues.
