ABSTRACT

Increasing demand for translation of foreign literature has led sci-tech librarians to enlist professional translation services. Of these, the large, experienced bureau is likely to be more dependable and cost-efficient than in-house staffs or freelancers; yet even the most qualified agency may fall short of expectations. The process of translation can incorporate a number of quality/turnaround checks and balances, but any system works best when agency and librarian open effective lines of communication to both clarify and best meet the assigned tasks.
