[Dining Out]

The following two fragments, unpublished during De Quincey’s lifetime, are held by Georgetown University Library, Special Collections Division (Miscellaneous Manuscripts Collection). Each consists of a single unwatermarked leaf of white paper, written in black ink and measuring 185 by 230 mm. A. H. Japp conflated parts of the two leaves which, though obviously part of the same draft, are not consecutive pages, and published the resulting version in Japp (1879), pp. 377–8. Both pieces bear crossings out and additions in Japp’s hand.
