ABSTRACT
It was towards the end of the Carnival – that is, in the Month of February, when Inez was prevailed upon by Donna Concha, to whom she had become warmly attached, to cast aside her mourning for her Aunt; it was not equally easy to dismiss the sadness that had oppressed her ever since her melancholy loss – a sadness encreased rather than diminished by the painful events that had followed.
