ABSTRACT

Chapter 12 is aimed at presenting concluding remarks about the ideas discussed throughout the book, plus some future prospects. It is verified that DEA is widely utilized in the academic context, but scarcely applied in companies. Currently, mainly from the perspective of efficiency analysis in productive systems of goods, the technique most widely utilized by companies is OEE. However, one of the authors’ research works, illustrated in this book, shows that OEE, by not considering all the elements, has limitations in evaluating system efficiency. Thus, the authors show that, in practice, DEA may contribute to the elimination of the deficiencies OEE presents. Finally, it is understood that the application of DEA, in the few companies that utilize it, focuses on analyses of technical efficiency. There is still ample scope to explore the utilization of DEA for economic efficiency analyses.
