ABSTRACT

Despite medical progress, interruption of pregnancy is still quite common. Section “Current Scientific Knowledge” focuses on current scientific knowledge. For instance, differences in pregnancy loss consideration depending on the countries and psychopathological consequences of pregnancy loss such as depression, PTSD, anxiety, and related disorders are then discussed. A special attention is paid to grief and bereavement. As miscarriage does not only have an impact on women’s well-being, the impact on the family functioning as well as men subjective experience of loss is also described. Some particular points as Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) or “how to manage a subsequent pregnancy” are also detailed. Section “Operational Guidelines” focuses on operational guidelines. This section proposes an overview of what type of care is currently proposed to women following perinatal loss. The need for screening psychopathological disorders is discussed and self-report questionnaires are presented. Different type of support program using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and psycho-education components are presented as well as their efficacy on women symptomatology.
