ABSTRACT

A lot of useful technology is being developed within the nearly 400 Federal research and development laboratories. Many Federal, state, regional, and local arms of government along with various activities within the private section are trying to help private sector organizations gain access to this Federal technology by means of licenses or other appropriate use of Federal R&D resources. This task is complicated by the facts that government labs are not used to “selling” developments and the spectrum is too large for “one-stop shopping” by most private organizations. U.S. libraries can assist in providing access to this technological data, particularly for small business ventures, via electronic data bases or other innovative techniques.
