ABSTRACT

Since the end of World War II scientific research has become increasing interdisciplinary as universities, government research facilities and corporations have sought solutions to societal problems and cures for life-threatening conditions. An integral part of the research process is information-seeking and that activity has been affected significantly by the emergence of interdisciplinarity fields. The materials both used and produced by interdisciplinary researchers have resulted in new demands on scientific and technical libraries. This paper will examine the problems of access to interdisciplinary information. It will explore some of the challenges facing scientific and technical libraries attempting to provide information services to scientists who are engaged in interdisciplinary research.
