ABSTRACT

The State University of New York University Centers located in Albany, Binghamton, and Stony Brook (hereafter referred to as the University Centers) have been working for the last several years on a variety of cooperative projects that support collection development and resource sharing. The purpose of the cooperative endeavors is to improve access to resources for our scholars and students without a proportionate increase in individual library costs. Additionally, we want to maximize the effectiveness of the dollars currently being spent on our collections. Such cooperative endeavors can provide concrete experience and different models for a new vision of the library-a vision based on access to information rather than ownership of enormous, burgeoning collections.
