ABSTRACT
The adverse impacts ofconstruction on environment promote sustainable development techniques. The green building is a sustainable system which ensures optimum use of natural resources throughout its lifecycle. Only 5% of the total Indian construction industries have implemented Green Building Technology. A number of researchers have investigated and found barriers which are hindering GBTs and practices in construction in various parts of the world. It is necessary to find out and suggest solutions for the critical barriers. The results from study showed that higher initial cost is the critical barrier followed by lack of demonstration projects and knowledge. This study also highlights the need to improve government’s participation in GBT promotion.
