ABSTRACT

This paper deals with the enhancement of power system stability. For the efficient operation of power system, the system should regain a stable operating point even after a disturbance. It can be achieved by providing proper controllers. Both Power System Stabilizer and Static Synchronous Series Compensator are capable of damping the low frequency oscillations. A Coordinated control of both these devices can provide a better performance. Here, Particle Swarm Optimization is used for the coordinated control. The proposed control strategy is applied to Kundur’s two area system to analyze the performance. Numerous results are shown here with different combination of controllers and for faults occurring in the system. From the results, it can be analyzed that, System stability can be enhanced by incorporating both Power System Stabilizer and Static Synchronous Series Compensator.
