ABSTRACT

AISI 430 grade steel is one of the most popular ferritic stainless steel (FSS) due to its better strength to weight ratio, low cost, and good corrosion properties. In this work, a single butt-joint (60° V groove) of the FSS plate (250×50× 6 mm3) was selected to fabricate the joint by using a TIG welding. The heat input was 1515.78 kJ/mm. The metallurgy of the welded joint can be grouped into two major regions like WZ and HAZ. Used filler wire contains as stabilizing elements (Ta+Nb) had confirmed by SEM with EDAX analysis after PWHT and subsequently, microstructures changed during welding. The optimum hardness has been achieved after TIG welding with subsequently PWHT at 500°C for 2h as base metal of 145 HV, WZ of 196 HV, and HAZ of 236 HV, respectively. The optimized the tensile properties after PWHT at 700oC for 2h, the properties are likely to YS of 283 MPa, UTS of 359 MPa, El of 10.73%, RA of 33.02%, and YS/UTS ratio of 0.8, respectively.
