ABSTRACT

Transition and change are words used frequently to characterize the present era. A recent report prepared for the U.S. Congress by the Office of Technology Assessment projects that during the coming two decades new technologies, increases in foreign trade, and the values of a new generation can be expected to reshape every product, service, and job in the United States. 1 According to the report such forces will shake the very foundation of the most stable American business. The expected significant role of information during this period is explored in detail, but without mention of the involvement of libraries.
