ABSTRACT
Indexes for major newspapers are available today in a variety of published formats, all generated from automated databases. Printed indexes, both on paper and on microfilm, continue to be useful. Self-contained automated indexing systems using optical disc technology are now appearing in libraries. Finally, online access to indexes and the text of newspapers is a rapidly growing practice.
