ABSTRACT

The Indiana Historical Society Newspaper Microfilm Project has microfilmed over three million pages of Indiana newspapers in danger of deterioration or destruction. As newspapers are microfilmed, four major objectives are kept in mind—preservation, storage space savings, microfilm copy availability, and publicity. The microfilm process involves several procedures and negotiations with numerous agencies and individuals. One of the most important aspects of the project is the researching of newspaper collections in Indiana repositories, and there are several considerations for researchers to keep in mind as they work in these repositories.
