ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights my many experiences as a Black woman/woman of color who has held several academic leadership positions in predominantly White schools of education across the nation. I describe how leading change initiatives at the campus and unit levels supportive of diversity and social justice within teacher-preparation programs often leads to different forms of hostility and resentment from majority White faculty and White staff. These experiences are viewed through a sociocultural and political lens while analyzing the continuously shifting and complex society shaping the field of education.
