ABSTRACT

At a time when academic librarians are increasingly concerned about their status on campus, their changing roles in the academic community, and appropriate recognition for their contributions to the success of the university, the place of librarians in position classification structures has become a focus of increasing attention. Librarians have watched in despair as university officials at their institutions not only fail to acknowledge the importance of their contributions, but also sometimes decline even to involve them in deliberations directly affecting their classifications and salaries.
