ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with an overview of the current context of race and relevant research literature concerning racial equity and justice in US K-12 schools. Fortunately, the research literature has provided important insights concerning how educators can begin the work of conceptualizing inclusive leadership around issues of race within their schools, school communities, and school systems in preparation for implementation of such leadership practices. In this chapter, authors are particularly interested in not only why inclusive leadership around race is important, but also how leaders should and do engage in this work. The chapter presents some of the ways in which school leaders can advance inclusive leadership practices around issues of race at the personal, school, and district levels.
