ABSTRACT
There are many traditional medicinal plants containing potential bioactive phytocompounds which can be developed as better leads in future drug discovery process. However, studies on plants are very limited and marginal due to complexity in their chemical constituents and lack of knowledge about their mechanism of action. This chapter presents details of 100 major phytocompounds reported from Indian traditional plants with structure, bioactivities, and sources. An extensive literature survey was carried out in this regard; the data were collected from research publications (PubMed-NCBI) and also from multiple online databases (Dr. Dukes phytochemical and ethnobotanical database, MAPS Database, PubChem, ChemSpider, STITCH and Super Target). The study can be concluded that many Indian plants have been investigated for their potential use in different types of ailments and many of the compounds studied can be developed as future drugs.
