ABSTRACT

Large variety of tribes and communities lives in the northeastern part of India. These communities firmly believe in traditional systems of medicine and herbal medicine, and tend to rely heavily on popular traditional methods for the treatment of diseases prescribed by traditional healers. The present article contains collection of data for the traditional methods in the treatment of common ailments. The data gathered in this chapter are based on some primary literatures, as well as their confirmation from various secondary and tertiary literatures. The results of the present findings shows that the local people tend to use decoction as the most popular method of herbal medicine treatment followed by paste, juice, infusion, and powder.

The study also reveals that these traditional methods are widely used for the treatment of common ailments and diseases in various parts of India. The study makes an important contribution to the documentation of the traditional herbal healing practices to prevent knowledge erosion and the development of curative pharmaceutical products.
