Amoretta M. Hoeber presents an interesting paradox, an activist feminist and a leading expert on chemical warfare. For most of her professional life, Ms. Hoeber has been employed in “think tanks” doing research for the Defense Department on such topics as strategic arms control, Soviet strategy, theater nuclear warfare, and chemical warfare issues. She is currently working for TRW, an aerospace firm with offices in Fairfax, Virginia, where she is studying environmental issues for the Defense Department. In 1981 she was appointed by Ronald Reagan to the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary for Research and Development for the Army. She was subsequently appointed to the positions of Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary and Deputy Under Secretary of the Army at Defense.
