ABSTRACT
Addressing televisual crime dramas, Lennard Højbjerg analyzes the audio-visual style and narrative strategies utilized in building up new characters in long-running series. Comparing the American program CSI with such European shows as Midsomer Murders, Spiral, and The Bridge, Højbjerg addresses the aesthetic means by which previously unseen characters are integrated within the workings of a larger law-enforcement unit.
