ABSTRACT

Selenium (Se) is an essential element to animals and humans. Intake of Se originates primarily from consumption of Se-enriched crops and vegetation growing in Se-rich soils, which originated, in most cases, from Se-rich parent materials. Two Se-rich rocks were collected from Enshi city including Yutangba Village and Baiyanping Village in Hubei Province, and other two samples collected from Ziyang County including Gaoqiao Town and Haoping Town in Shanxi Province. Five Se-rich soil samples as candidate of reference materials were taken from five Se-rich regions in China. Concentrations of Se and other eight elements Ag, As, Cd, Cu, Mo, Pb, V, and Zn were analyzed in Serich rocks, while in Se-rich soils concentrations of Se and other six elements Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn were determined. Concentrations of Se and other elements in Se-rich rock and soil samples were independently analyzed by ten qualified analytical laboratories.
