ABSTRACT
This chapter analyzes whether and how the arrival of the Trump presidency affected the relation between the United States and Colombia. The chapter argues that whereas there have been shifts in the nature of the policies between both countries, this realignment took place around ongoing concerns that link both countries, the way these challenges are spoken about, and what policies are central to the bilateral agenda between both countries, while the concerns remain the same. Despite that a repressive policy approach has re-emerged with regards to the existence of illicit crops and the production of illicit drugs, the geo-political tensions regarding the authoritarian regime of Maduro in Venezuela shapes most of the international cooperation between the two countries. Both of these policies have mostly followed a continuum on the agenda since the previous Colombian and U.S. governments.
