ABSTRACT

In order to ensure a successful long-term conservation objective, the effort must be able to raise the public’s appreciation which can be communicated through educational experience embedded in the park’s recreational and tourism activities. The communication of conservation is particularly important for national parks that have been inscribed as World Heritage Sites by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization for their distinctive cultural or physical significance. In national parks, the most significant value of parks is undoubtedly its conservation values, which is actually also the main justification for park establishment. The chapter focuses on recreational, educational, and scientific research and monitoring values. In protected areas, educational values are embedded in various forms of interpretative programs such as guiding, artifact exhibitions, posters, and video presentations which are normally organized by the park authority to introduce the conservation efforts to the visitors.
