ABSTRACT

Our economical and durable proposed bridge deck consists of concrete and steel elements such as bottom steel plate, deformed bar and “Deformed Flange T-shapes (Hereinafter referred to as DFT)”. The DFT, which is installed on the bottom steel plate in the transverse direction at a distance of 500–800 millimeter has lateral protrusions on the outer surface of flange plate for increasing bond strength between steel and concrete. Studied herein is the applicability of the proposed composite slab to highway bridges in Japan. Therefore, the structural characteristics of this slab is assessed to satisfy the performances required for Bridge decks, which contains slippage stop, load carrying capacity, fatigue durability and so on, defined in Specifications for Highway bridges in Japan. In this paper, we report focusing on characteristics of DFT, fatigue durability and load carrying capacity among required performance. As a result, it is concluded this slab has high performance.
