ABSTRACT

California has long been a popular destination for conferences and symposiums. Over time, existing conference and convention facilities, particularly in popular cities such as San Francisco and Monterey have found themselves struggling to meet the increased demands for space and amenities. This has posed the threat of potential loss of bookings to other cities with better facilities, often in other States. In response many cities have chosen to expand and upgrade their existing conference and convention facilities to stay competitive. This paper describes some of the challenges faced and solutions adopted in connection with the expansion of the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California, and the Monterey Conference Center in Monterey, California.
