ABSTRACT

The long-established Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Muslim League were forced onto the Opposition benches and the Khan group was able to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly from its ranks. The Chinese investment began to flow in under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor initiative and may add another percentage point to the rate of growth. The private sector is even more involved in promoting social development in the country. An American journalist who writes frequently about Pakistan commented that when Pakistanis talk about their country, their views are mostly negative, as though they have given up hope for their country. Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement; banned the entry into the country of citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries; and recruited people into several senior positions who were committed to downsizing the agencies they were to lead.
