ABSTRACT
This chapter begins by describing the seven necessary components of health systems, as defined by the World Health Organization. In response to the Healthy China 2030 agenda, the ‘family doctor team’ is an emerging primary care model characterised by cohesive health management service provision that embraces family centred continuous care as opposed to episodic care. The concept is based on the complexity of patients’ care, including the provision of health management starting with perspectives that take into account the wider determinants of health. Thus, the general practice (GP) physician has a leadership role, leading the whole team to their best endeavours in a generalist approach following primary care principles to deliver both patient-centred and population-oriented services. Since primary care facilities are encouraged to develop family doctor teams, professionals from a variety of disciplines sharing unique perspectives can thus expand the scope of clinical generalism and lighten the GP physician’s load.
