ABSTRACT

This chapter demonstrates a mainly positive relationship between Education Abroad (EA) and four institutional outcome measures: student retention and degree completion, institutional finances, institutional policies, and prestige and reputation. It calls on practitioners to expand their conceptualization of EA’s impact and to establish relationships across campus to better leverage EA programming to support and extend institutional goals. The chapter reviews of practices and academic literature around the relationship between EA and the following topics: retention and degree completion, institutional finances, institutional policies, and reputation and global standings. Then the chapter also discusses the impact of EA on four institutional outcome measures.
