ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the Relational Capability Index (RCI); its foundational principles; and its application in empirical surveys in Nigeria, Indonesia, Argentina, Mexico, and Brazil.

This index, built in accordance with a relational vision of the firm and with the capability approach framework, measures the quality of the relationships between the company and its different stakeholders.

This focus on the relational capabilities of stakeholders and on the mission of the firm within society and towards future generations, as a key dimension of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), impacts the way companies can cooperate with different actors to promote sustainable business models.

Thus, this chapter renews the definition of CSR and its extent and commits corporations to better link business strategy with the interests of all stakeholders, including the most vulnerable.
