ABSTRACT

Intellectual pursuits, disciplines, rational forms of thought and learning are said to be essentially lacking in warmth. If the human lifeblood of education is sucked out in school this is disastrous but it is a call for reform of schools and teaching methods rather than an attack on the central idea of education involving various rational disciplines. Women find they can operate just as well as men within the various forms of masculine language even though their feminine understanding extends wider, beyond the confines of these rational-logical systems. The school system has been an important agency in this rape-like imposition. The feminist is entitled to say that the systematic knowledge making systems presently favoured omit some important orientations. Education, it is claimed, is the systematic exclusion or stamping out of those valuable human qualities that have traditionally been allocated to femininity.
