ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the book as a series of investigations into the ways in which contested urban heritage plays a role in mediating, subverting and/or overcoming sociopolitical conflict in divided cities. The chapter first outlines the main questions and aims of the book. It then situates the book in the context of the related existing studies, discusses the academic concepts that underpin its core themes and outlines its contribution to knowledge in the field. The last part of this chapter contains an exposition of the book’s subsections and a description of the book chapters.
