Vibrational Modes of the Van Der Waals-London Silicon Clusters Si2 and Si3 In the Gas-Phase

We indicate the possibility for the Van der Waals-London clusters Si2 and Si3 to exist as the vibrational structures. By applying the Lagrange’s formalism of classical mechanics to small oscillations of weakly bound clusters Si2 and Si3, we found that their harmonic frequencies are in the infrared spectral range (IR). We also obtained for the He2 dimer the harmonic frequency 32.4 cm−1 which is in accordance with the density functional theory (DFT) estimations yielding 33.1 cm−1.
