ABSTRACT

The child's experience of listening to a fairy tale, identifying with the characters, associating to the story and sharing their impressions verbally and through drawings can play a significant role in enhancing the development of thinking and creativity in the child. In telling the children fairy tales each day, their faces feelings of both fear and wonder, as if they had gone into an imaginary wood, full of undeciphered experiences, from which it was important to start making distinctions and giving a name to their feelings. Each child has the opportunity of finding his own message in the tale, according to his particular interests and needs. The sharing of drawings and thoughts allows each child to be simultaneously attracted and enriched by the discoveries of others. Developmental growth in the individual or the group may occur if, and only if, the experience of the reader behind the tale is real and authentic.
