ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book shows that telepathic phenomena are subject to the laws of primary process. It argues that telepathy occurs in psychoanalysis at meaningful and predictable points, in response to the analysand's wish. The book offers a detailed account of C. G. Jung's theory of synchronicity and illustrates through the clinical experiences. It looks at the massive American phenomenon of UFO contactee stories and also argues that the material is demonstrably psychotic in nature. The book suggests a specific connection between birds and telepathy, and shows how in fairy stories, birds are often used as a means of communication with those in captivity or far away. The book describes a philosophical discussion both of the concept of the paranormal itself, and of some psychoanalytic ideas about it.
