ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the use of teleanalysis and teletherapy with children or adolescents. Analysts have become slowly more transparent about the extent of their use of teleanalysis in work with adults. They have begun to present their work at scientific meetings within their own local analytic institutes and at national and international association meetings. The field of pediatric medicine adheres strongly to the adage that “kids are not just little adults”. Violeta is a Hispanic girl born in the Washington DC area after her parents emigrated from Uruguay to pursue their professions in the United States. Jonathan is a thirteen-year-old only child who came to therapy when he was eleven, on the heels of his maternal grandmother’s death. Jonathan clearly preferred meeting in person if possible and yet worked well with dreams in teletherapy, while Violeta felt comfortable meeting via VC and had no preference.
