ABSTRACT

The conclusion places emphasis on the leading argument of this book and explains that, while the contributing chapters explored the kind of vision of the self that the European Union (EU) presented in Southeast Asia, this conclusion provides a tentative outlook regarding the future evolution of European foreign policy. It argues that to look forward to an increased influence in the Global South via relating to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Myanmar, the EU should concentrate on few recommendations that each of the seven chapters suggested in their concluding analyses and considerations of the EU’s failures and limited success of its policy. The chapter ends by encouraging other research to study how European foreign policy has attempted to heighten its image by focusing on the EU’s interactions with other countries in the region.
