Colonial modernity and plight of the receiving communities 1

One of the challenges before the receiving communities is of handling the ‘bundle of contradictions’ brought by colonialism. The doctored version of modernity packages in ‘colonial moorings’ has created exclusive identity claims among the receiving communities, contrary to modernity’s own political project. Hierarchies generated through ‘self-claims’ have turned Northeast India into a contesting site of inter-community and intra-community assertions.
