ABSTRACT
A misinformed idea of nation making subdues smaller linguistic communities by a so-called majority community. Assamese nationalist assertion is driven by its desire to break the Bengali domination of its language and culture. But overridden by the anti-Bengali movement and the politics of dominance underneath, the smaller communities, which formed parts of the composite Assamese identity, have today become alienated and parted ways.
