ABSTRACT

As early as 1861 Bishop Chrisnoph (Retivtcev) of Nizhui Novgorad called upon the Church to help stop hostilities and establish relations of dialogue and rapprochement with Jews. Archbishop Nicholas (Ziorov) addressed himself to the Jews in the same spirit at the beginning of this century. He said that the Jewish people are close to them in their faith. Proceeding from these doctrinal and theological convictions, the hierarchs, clergy and theologians of the Church decisively and openly condemned any manifestations of anti-Semitism and hostility, as well as pograms against Jews. Because the fullness of Christianity includes Judaism, and the fullness of Judaism is Christianity. The idea of dialogue arid rapprochement with the Russian Orthodox Church has always found positive response and support from the public and spiritual leaders of Jewish communities in our country.
