ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the model of a woman in today's Poland. According to the model propagated in journals, a modern Polish woman is liberated and unprudish. Sex is neither sex nor indissoluble marriage any longer. More and more often, public persons are interviewed, among other subjects, about their marriage, past and present relationships, sexual preferences, and opinions about sex. Despite the considerable social and moral transformations, the models propagated for Polish women of today traditionally attach great importance to motherhood, which is shown as the woman's paramount experience. The Polish woman of today should take care of herself: her looks, dress, hair, and body. A woman should take care not only of her looks but also of her personality. Thus, the journals suggest books and films and prompt women to develop interests and activities in various directions as "the husband should see his partner not only as the wife but also as an interesting, attractive, and somewhat mysterious woman".
