Experimental study of frictional drag reduction on a hull model by air-bubbling
The paper refers on a research activity developed at DREAMS Lab of the University of Genoa (Italy), focused on experimental application of air-bubbling technique on a hull model. In this study the reduction in the frictional resistance by air bubbling is tested with the injection of compressed air on the bottom of the model tested in the towing tank. The injection of compressed air is managed by a customized pneumatic circuit, designed in according to the model shape and size. The pneumatic unit is designed to allow a flexible distribution of air in different areas of the hull and to organize flexible tests usually not implemented in standard test facilities.
