Comparisons of CFD, experimental and analytical simulations of a heaving box-type floating structure
Wave radiation by a heaving box-type floating structure based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations using OpenFOAM with a volume of fluid method is analysed. The numerical simulation results of vertical force obtained for a heaving box are compared against experimental data and linearized analytical solutions based on velocity potential flow theory. The comparison results include vertical force and response amplitude operator for the heaving box at different wave lengths. The comparison shows that the CFD results are in good agreement with the experimental ones and are very close to the analytical ones. Hence, it is indicated that CFD is well capable in simulating wave interaction behaviour of a heaving box-type floating structure.
