ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that the implication of the 2014 Parliamentary election is more a grand battle waged for India’s soul. The Hindu Rightwing party (Bhartiya Janata Party) has left India’s moral, social, and political landscape profoundly divided and wounded. Using various commentaries and analysis of political developments, the author argues how the majoritarian politics is unfolding in India and how the violence is getting legitimised and institutionalised. With growing threats to religious minorities and their demonisation, the idea of India as a multi-cultural and secular society is under grave threat.
