ABSTRACT

The chapter examines how the election marks a quantum leap in the rise of saffron power committed to a Savarkarite Hindu Rashtra, and focuses on its impact on Christians, in particular tribal Christians. It suggests that the only remedy for a failing democracy is more democracy. It attempts to answer whether the saffron electoral sweep in Uttar Pradesh (UP) begin a ‘dance of death’ for the ‘idea of India’ envisioned in India’s Constitutions as a socialist, secular democracy.
