ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an implementation of the electronic voting machine illustrating the applicability of emerging blockchain technology-based solutions to address current and emerging cybersecurity threats. Cybersecurity has become central for empowering national and international progress in diverse scientific and non-scientific domains. Blockchain is one of the powerful emerging technology that is diverse, dynamic, and promises substantial resiliency against malicious adversaries when employed in the advanced, unpredictable, and heterogeneous computing ecosystems, such as financial services industry, national cyberinfrastructures, and more. The blockchain is in general an append-only data structure where all blocks of transactions are chained together. The blockchain lives in a state of general agreement, that facilitates automatic checks within a designated timeframe. The blockchain implementation performs validation by checking ensuring local ledgers match the most popular, accepted ledger version. The combination of security and immutability facilitated by blockchain aids its applicability to voting machines, supply chains, and healthcare to name only a few.
