ABSTRACT
Over the last five years the author has been lucky enough to have access to some of the most successful and inspiring high-performance environments across business, sport, the arts, military and several other sectors. The research was global and covered leading organisations in a number of sectors. What became clear, very quickly, was the importance of ambition as a driving force for performance.
Cricket Ireland is a great case in point. Over the last decade it leveraged ambition to radically transform performance on and off the field. From a leading second-tier nation, full test match status was secured in 2017. Bold in its intent, it has taken tough decisions that reflect this ambition. It has created a sense of purpose that has driven performance both on and off the field. It continually reset its ambition to ensure that driving force is always present.
