ABSTRACT

What do Google, Pixar, Apple, GE, the Royal Marines and the New Zealand All Blacks all have in common? They are all absolutely obsessed with first recruiting the best talent they can, and then creating an environment around that talent that challenges and enables people to achieve their full potential.

Leaders generally do not struggle to create high performance because of a lack of will; they struggle because they do not know how to create an effective performance culture. The most important role for a leader is to create an environment that challenges and allows people to fulfill their potential in the pursuit of a worthwhile objective.

This chapter provides insight into the leadership behind the highest-performing teams and organisations in the world. It includes a case study of the New Zealand All Blacks, the world’s most successful sports team, on how to create a high performance culture.
