ABSTRACT

A 10-year-old female presents with 4 days of worsening pain and redness to the anterior thigh. She was seen by her pediatrician 3 days ago and placed on an antibiotic for cellulitis. The affected area seems to be expanding with worsening pain. She is noted to have a slight fever but is otherwise well. Her exam reveals a 4 cm area of indurated skin with minimal fluctuance in the center. You are not sure if you should change her antibiotic regimen or perform an incision and drainage of the area.
